Alea Parcae
In the week of April 24th my family got sick and I had to visit a hospital with members. Please understand that this entry is not living up to what I usually deliver. Thanks.
Rules
This is a multiplayer version of Grow Cube. You play with three humans (sharing a device). Each of you is picking an emoji on each round. Once everyone has made their choice, the majority is selected. In case there is a tie, you will see a shrug emoji as a result (there is a bug round depicting a shrug emoji as latest choice. Consider this a pending result).
If you manage to guess the world's solution you win (kind of Grow Cube meets Mastermind).
Missing pieces
I wasn't able to develop everything I set out to. You can look at the code repository and read the journal to understand what was on my mind. Taking care of my family took a considerable amount of time away from development. If time allows I will continue development for some time to realise the local multiplayer that I dreamt of.
There is some infrastructure in place (although not committed) to allow for multiplayer over the Internet. However, I have not decided which hoster I want to go with (requirements: hosting in EU, preferably Germany. Offering SSH to my machine. Running Node.js. I am capable of updating software on my own but don't want to deal with the hardware and uplink). If you can recommend something, please leave a comment.
The biggest four elements that I plan to develop:
- Adding an AI (like, different strategies) for a bot you can play against (I have read up about how to develop it. It's a matter of time)
- Allowing for colour of the tiles of a face of the cube (together with a world editor that allows you to create your own worlds and share it with others)
- Going back in time. I record each round people play. The world selection screen will be extended with an option to pick up a certain round and continue from there.
- Adding different means of input and output. Ranging from game controller over Wii to display in list views and general more accessible interfaces.
Donating
Since January 2023 I became a freelancer. In order to compensate for my time I kindly ask for a small donation to encourage me to develop more games. I completely understand if you don't have the means or want to leave some money in the tip jar. No hard feelings.
My games are usually open source under a copyleft license. I want to share my knowledge and allow others to learn from me as I learn from the community online.
